Cougars Blank Skyhawks 43-0 On The Road
The Sault College Cougars bounced back in impressive fashion on Saturday, shutting out the Quinte Skyhawks 43-0 on the road in Ontario Football Conference action.
The win improves the Cougars' record to 2-1 in their inaugural CJFL season and sets the stage for a historic first-ever home game on Saturday, August 23.
"It was a nice bounce-back win after a lackluster performance last week in Hamilton," said Cougars head coach Paul Orazietti. "It came at a big price, however, with our starting quarterback Lex McGarity suffering a lower-body injury on a scramble in the first quarter. Our guys came to play today and I was proud of the effort."
Despite losing McGarity early, the Cougars' offense remained steady with quarterbacks Grayson Weber and Matti Tucker stepping in to guide the attack. Meanwhile, the Cougars' defense continued its strong play, keeping opponents off the scoreboard for ten of the team's twelve quarters this season.
"We have now posted ten out of twelve quarters this season with no points allowed on defense, which bodes well for our chances as we begin to face tougher teams in our schedule," Orazietti added. "We need to clean up our penalty and discipline situation in order to take the next step, but I like the direction we are going."
Historic Home Opener
The Cougars will now turn their attention to their first-ever home game in program history, hosting the Hamilton Hurricanes on Saturday, August 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Rocky DiPietro Field.
Fans are encouraged to come out and be part of this milestone moment for the Sault College football program. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the gate.
