Cougars Drop Season-Opening Doubleheader to Humber Hawks
The Cougars men's baseball team opened their OCAA season on Saturday with a doubleheader at home, falling in both games to the visiting Humber Hawks.
In Game 1, the Cougars jumped out to an early lead when Michael Starzomski hit a three-run home run in the first inning, scoring Diego Martinez and Scott Stelling. The offense continued in the fourth for the Cougars as Martinez drove in two runs with a single before Starzomski added a two-run double to extend the lead to 7–3. Humber responded with a five-run sixth inning to tie the game and added four more in the seventh to take control, defeating the Cougars 11–7. Starzomski finished with five RBIs, while Martinez added two.
In Game 2, Humber scored first in the opening frame before Starzomski delivered his second home run of the day to bring the Cougars even. Martinez added more offense with a run-scoring hit, but Humber once again rallied late, scoring in the middle and late innings to secure a 6–2 win and the sweep.
Starzomski led the Cougars' offense across the two games with 10 RBIs, while Martinez provided consistent production with multiple hits and runs batted in.
The Cougars are on the road this weekend, facing the St. Clair Saints on Saturday (1pm & 3pm) and Sunday (12pm).
